Beatificazione di Madre Candelaria
Oggi domenica 27 aprile, a Caracas (Venezuela) viene beatificata Madre Candelaria de San José (Susana Paz Castillo Ramírez - 1863-1940), vergine, fondatrice della Congregazione delle Suore Carmelitane del Terz’Ordine Regolare del Venezuela. E’ la seconda venezuelana elevata agli onori degli altari.
La solenne cerimonia si svolgerà nello stadio dell’Università centrale e sarà presieduta dal Cardinale José Saraiva Martins, Prefetto della Congregazione per le Cause dei Santi, Legato del Papa. Parteciperanno in rappresentanza dell’Ordine il P. Generale Fernando Millán Romeral O.Carm., il Consigliere per le Americhe P. Raul Maravi O.Carm. e il postulatore della causa P. Felip Amenós Bonet.
 
Nata ad Altagracia de Orituco l'11 agosto 1863, Susanna Paz-Castillo Ramírez, il suo nome di battesimo, accolse con entusiasmo la chiamata di Dio alla santità, e fin da molto giovane si distinse per la pratica della carità viva ed effettiva, con la quale assistette, consolò e curò i malati e i feriti che le vicende belliche avevano lasciato nelle strade della sua città natale. Incoraggiata dal sacerdote Sixto Sosa, in seguito Vescovo di Cumaná, si consacrò al servizio dei malati all'ospedale “Sant'Antonio”, fondato nel 1903 ad Altagracia de Orituco.
Poi, insieme a padre Sosa, ne fondò una Congregazioni femminile dedicata al servizio dei poveri, che si costituì definitivamente il 31 dicembre 1910 con il nome “Congregazione delle Piccole Sorelle dei Poveri di Altagracia de Orituco”. In seguito la Congregazione si affiliò all'Ordine Carmelitano, e furono chiamate Terziarie Carmelitane Regolari. Oggi sono conosciute come Suore Carmelitane Venezuelane o Carmelitane di Madre Candelaria.
Con grande impegno ed entusiasmo, nonostante le ristrettezze economiche della Congregazione e la scarsità generale di risorse, Madre Candelaria compì un'estesa opera di assistenza ai feriti delle guerre e ai malati più poveri, manifestando una grande fiducia nella Divina Provvidenza e intenso amore per i più bisognosi. Frutto dei suoi sforzi è stata la creazione di vari ospedali sulle pianure e nell'est del Paese quando la cura della salute da parte dello Stato era molto carente.
Per il suo ardente amore per Dio, per la sua dedizione generosa e l'abnegazione ai poveri, sotto la direzione dei Vescovi e in compagnia delle religiose della sua Congregazione, la nuova beata venezuelana è oggi esempio di virtù, tra le quali spiccano la sua fede viva e intensa in Gesù Cristo, nostro unico salvatore, l'unione e l'amore per la Chiesa – e in particolare per i Vescovi del Venezuela – e la più viva carità nei confronti dei poveri.

Beatificación de Madre Candelaria
Hoy, domingo 27 de abril,  será beatificada en la capital venezolana la Madre Candelaria de San José (Susana Paz Castillo Ramírez) (1863-1940), virgen, fundadora de la Congregación de las Hermanas Carmelitas de la Tercera Orden Regular de Venezuela. Es la segunda venezolana en ser elevada a los altares.
La solemne ceremonia se efectuará en Caracas, y será presidida por el cardenal José Saraiva Martins, prefecto de la Congregación para las Causas de los Santos, y como Legado del Papa. Serán presentes en el nombre de nuestra Orden el Prior General P. Fernando Millán Romeral O.Carm., el Consejero por las Américas P. Raul Maravi y el postulador de la causa P. Felip Amenos Bonet.
 
Nacida en Altagracia de Orituco el 11 de agosto de 1863, Susana Paz-Castillo Ramírez, su nombre de Bautismo, acogió con entusiasmo la llamada de Dios a la santidad, y desde muy joven descolló en la práctica de la caridad viva y efectiva, con la cual atendió, consoló y curó a los enfermos y heridos que las contiendas bélicas habían dejado en las calles de su ciudad natal. Animada por el presbítero Sixto Sosa, más tarde Obispo de Cumaná, se consagró al servicio de los enfermos en el Hospital «San Antonio» fundado en 1903 en Altagracia de Orituco.
Luego, junto con el Padre Sosa, inició la fundación de una nueva Congregación religiosa, dedicada al servicio de los pobres, la cual se constituyó definitivamente el 31 de diciembre de 1910 con el nombre de «Congregación de las Hermanitas de los Pobres de Altagracia de Orituco». Posteriormente la Congregación se agregó a la Orden del Carmelo, y fueron denominadas Terciarias Carmelitas Regulares. Hoy son conocidas como Hermanas Carmelitas Venezolanas o Carmelitas de la Madre Candelaria.
Con gran tesón y entusiasmo, a pesar de las estrecheces económicas de la Congregación, y de la escasez general de recursos, la Madre Candelaria realizó una extensa labor de atención a los heridos de las guerras y a los enfermos más pobres, manifestando una gran confianza en la Divina Providencia, e intenso amor a los más necesitados. Fruto de sus esfuerzos fue el establecimiento de varios Hospitales en los Llanos y el Oriente del país cuando la atención del Estado a la salud era muy deficiente.
Por su ardiente amor a Dios y por su entrega generosa y abnegada a los pobres, bajo la dirección de los obispos y en compañía de las religiosas de su Congregación, esta nueva beata venezolana es hoy ejemplo de virtudes, entre las cuales se destaca su fe viva e intensa en Jesucristo, nuestro único Salvador, la unión y el amor a la Iglesia -y en particular a los obispos de Venezuela-, y la más viva caridad para con los más pobres.

Beatification of Mother Candelaria
Mother Candelaria de San Jose (born Susana Paz Castillo Ramirez), virgin and founder of the Congregation of the Carmelite Sisters of the Third Order Regular of Venezuela, will be beatified today, April 27 in the stadium of the Central University of Caracas, Venezuela. The ceremony will take place in Caracas, and will be presided over by Cardinal José Saraiva Martins, prefect of the Congregation for Saints' Causes, who will be the papal legate for the occasion. Also present will be the Prior General Fr. Fernando Millán Romeral, the Councillor for America Fr. Raul Maravi and the Postulator of the cause Fr. Felip Amenos Bonet.
 
She was born Susana Paz-Castillo Ramírez in 1863. She enthusiastically welcomed the call of God to holiness, and since her youth, stood out in practicing living and effective charity, with which she cared for, consoled and healed the sick and wounded that strife had left on the streets of her birth city. Encouraged by Father Sixto Sosa, later bishop of Cumana, she consecrated herself to the service of the sick of San Antonio Hospital, founded in 1903.
Later, she began the foundation of a new religious congregation, dedicated to serving the poor. The congregation was definitively established in 1910 with the name "Congregation of the Sisters of the Poor of Altagracia de Orituco." Afterward, the congregation was affiliated to the Carmelite Order, and was called the Third Order of Regular Carmelites. Today they are known as the Venezuelan Carmelite Sisters or Carmelites of Mother Candelaria.
With great tenacity and enthusiasm, in spite of the economic straits of the congregation, and the general scarcity of resources, Mother Candelaria performed a widespread, attentive labour to those wounded by wars and the poorest sick people, showing a great trust in Divine Providence, and an intense love for the most needy.
Because of her ardent love for God and her generous and selfless surrender to the poor, under the direction of the bishops and in the company of the religious of her congregation, this new Venezuelan blessed is today an example of virtues, standing out among them, her living and intense faith in Jesus Christ, our only saviour; her union with and love for the Church, particularly the Venezuelan bishops, and her lively charity for the poorest.
